DR Swiss: S&P Global Ratings 2026

Deutsche Rück Group receives renewed ‘A+’ rating from S&P – outlook stable

The rating agency has awarded DR Swiss and Deutsche Rück an "A+" rating with a stable outlook every year since 2016.

Düsseldorf, 20 August 2026 – S&P Global Ratings has confirmed the financial strength of the Deutsche Rück Group and has once again assigned it an ‘A+’ rating – the outlook remains stable. This means that the reinsurer has consistently held an ‘A+’ rating with a stable outlook since 2016. The rating comprises Deutsche Rückversicherung AG in Düsseldorf and Deutsche Rückversicherung Schweiz AG (DR Swiss) in Zurich.

In its recent rating report, S&P Global Ratings underscores the Deutsche Rück Group’s sustainable, excellent capital and earnings profile, its strong competitive position and its secure earnings situation. These factors are built on risk-adequate underwriting and an effective retrocession structure.

The rating agency also takes a positive view of Deutsche Rück’s internationalisation strategy, which contributes to greater portfolio diversification and further growth. In recent years, Deutsche Rück has expanded its standard property & casualty business into the Middle East, Latin America and South, South-East and East Asia. Furthermore, its life and health reinsurance business has also been internationalised. In addition to its core markets of Germany and Austria, Deutsche Rück also underwrites life and health business in selected countries in the Middle East and the Maghreb region.

Against this backdrop, S&P continues to expect positive business performance and stable capital development, and has affirmed the ‘A+’ rating with a stable outlook.

“The reaffirmation of our ‘A+’ rating underlines the financial strength and reliability of the Deutsche Rück Group,” says Achim Bosch, Chief Executive of Deutsche Rück. “Our financial stability is the foundation for long-term, trust-based partnerships with our clients. At the same time, it provides us with the necessary scope to further develop our international business in a targeted manner.”

Earlier in June, the Deutsche Rück Group had been rated for the first time by the rating agency Fitch and had likewise received an ‘A+’ rating with a stable outlook.

CEO Achim Bosch: "Our financial stability is the foundation for long-term, trust-based partnerships with our clients. At the same time, it provides us with the necessary scope to further develop our international business in a targeted manner."
